Parker Gavigan is an Associated Press award winning journalist. He joined ABC6 as a general assignment reporter in 2006. Covering daily news fills up most days, but Parker often digs deeper into stories, getting the answers that matter most. He recently examined the dismal state of Rhode Island's bridges before that deadly collapse in Minnesota. The story uncovered massive delays in state inspections. Aside from news, Parker also completed a documentary for ABC6 titled, "The Voyage of the Virginia." The documentary chronicled life at sea onboard a tall ship for Rhode Island teens as they sailed for the first time. The "Voyage" won an Associated Press award in 2008.
Before coming to ABC6, Gavigan was a reporter at KNWA, in Fayetteville, AR. While in Arkansas, he broke several stories about police corruption and wasteful government spending. Prior to that, he worked for WPEP News Radio in Taunton.
Gavigan graduated from the University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He also earned a Masters degree in Broadcast Journalism from Emerson College in Boston. In addition, Parker studied government and war policy at the University of Westminster in London, UK.
Gavigan volunteers with Big Brothers of Rhode Island. As a Massachusetts native and avid boater, Parker's glad to be back home near the ocean. He now lives in Rhode Island and is engaged to ABC6 Morning and Noon Anchor Doreen Scanlon. If you have a story idea email Parker at
