Award-winning journalist Andrew Gobeil has participated in Presidential press conferences at the White House, pulled 9G's in an Air Force F16, flown into hurricanes off the Gulf Coast and walked out of forest fires in New Mexico. Now, he has the opportunity to cover news in his back yard, and he couldn't be more excited.
The Cape native (a Barnstable High graduate), received a history degree from Fitchburg State College before moving west to become one of the youngest NPR affiliate news directors in the country. From New Mexico he moved to Pensacola, Florida where he started his career in commercial television. A move to Greenville, South Carolina was followed by promotions to Washington DC (where he became a national correspondent) and to Las Vegas, Nevada (as a morning anchor).
He returned to South Carolina and created a weekly news and public affairs program that aired on the Palmetto State's PBS stations. After working with a superlative crew to build the program, he decided to take some time off to write two books, which are nearing completion. When the morning anchor position at ABC6 opened up, he jumped, thrilled at the chance to work at the station he watched as a child.
Andrew's sons Devin (born in 1997) and Jack (born in 2001) are thrilled to be back in Red Sox/Patriots/Bruins/Celtics country. Whether it's sailing on Nantucket Sound, hiking through Roger Williams Park, walking the Freedom Trail in Boston or trying new restaurants in Federal Hill, he enjoys taking the boys on adventures through Southeastern New England.
