Event Description

RUNWAY EARTH TAKES CENTER STAGE AT THE BOTANICAL CENTER

(Providence, R.I.) On September 17th, 2008 Groundwork Providence will be presenting
Runway Earth 7: “Recycled Fashions for a sustainable world”. This year’s event will take place at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden from 6:30-9:00pm. Runway Earth showcases local designers and celebrity models, including: Miss Rhode Island USA 2008 Amy Diaz, House Majority Leader Gordon Fox, and Director of Planning and Development for the City of Providence Thomas Deller.

For the seventh year in a row, Runway Earth takes critical environmental issue to the stage in a fun and fashionable way as it exemplifies that being green can also be hip and chic! All designs are created from re-used materials, which are often commonly discarded items in most households. “To see interesting fashion design created from re-used materials such as drapery, old photographs, and such changes the way people perceive ordinary household items they would normally throw away once their purpose has been served to something totally new”, said Clink Lank, Executive Director of Groundwork Providence. “Our designers have been especially creative this year and we look forward to a fun display of fashion on the runway”.

The fashion show will feature a live auction of several top designs and a silent auction for other spectacular prizes. Tickets are $35 in advance by purchasing online at www.groundworkprodivence.org or $40 at the door.

Founded in 1982, Groundwork Providence is a private non-profit educational organization dedicated to building a cleaner, greener, safer, more beautiful city though environmental programming such as the Providence Neighborhood Planting Program, Trees 2020, Spring & Fall Clean-ups, Environmental Job Training Programs, Summer Green Teams, and a community tool bank. Groundwork Providence programming changes attitudes and behaviors regarding our urban environment, instills community pride, and encourages all Providence residents and businesses to take responsibility for our communities.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
