Event Description

DETAILS: Manfredo’s Gym is hosting the 1st Annual Boxing by the Sea charity dinner show featuring teams representing the United States Marine Corps and USA Boxing New England. A portion of the proceeds will benefit South County Hospital. Guests are encouraged to bring a toy donation for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots collection.

Cash bar opens at 6pm with a three course dinner at 7pm. General Admission doors open prior to the start of Olympic-style boxing competition at 8pm.

As individuals and businesses battle to thrive during the current economic downturn, Manfredo’s Gym recognizes the importance of supporting the healthcare resources of the community and has chosen to invest a portion of the proceeds in the long-term growth and stability of South County Hospital—an institution that is dedicated to saving lives, enriching the quality of life of its patients and supporting the wellness of its community. A check presentation to South County Hospital will be made during the event. By encouraging toy donations to the Toys for Tots collection box, which will be located in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency on the night of the event, Manfredo’s Gym is hoping to make a difference in the lives of many children during this year’s holiday season.

The event is sanctioned by USA Boxing NE, Inc., which is a nationally recognized organization involved in the certification and training of Olympic competition officials, coaches and athletes. The bouts are scored on a point system, all competitors must wear appropriate safety equipment including head gear, and the safety of the boxer is top priority.

In honor of the United States Marine Corps’ 234th Birthday and Veteren’s Day, which occur during the week prior to the event, Mayor Jeanne- Marie Napolitano of Newport will present the United States Marine Corps boxing team with keys to the city and proclamation on Monday, November 16, 2009.
