Event Description

SEAMEN’S CHURCH INSTITUTE TO HOST WINTER CONCERT FOR THE COMMUNITY

The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Robert Franzblau, will present a “WINTER COMMUNITY CONCERT” hosted by the Seamen’s Church Institute of Newport. The concert will be performed in the Atrium the Newport Marriott Hotel at 25 America’s Cup Avenue at 7 PM on Sunday evening, February 21, 2010. Music of Whitacre, Host, Grainger, and Strauss will be highlighted by the impressive group of musicians in the RIWE. Marisa Martinez, an accomplished flutist for over 20 years, will be featured as a soloist during the performance.

“We are delighted to have this wonderful evening of music on the last day of Newport’s annual Winter Fest celebration,” said Deedra Durocher of Seamen’s. “This is an opportunity for us to give something back to the Aquidneck Island community that has been so supportive throughout the year for the important work we do help individuals and families in need.”

Sponsorship of the Winter Community Concert has been provided to Seamen’s Church Institute by the People’s Credit Union, with additional support from the Newport Marriott Hotel. Partial support for RIWE’s 2010 Concert seasons is provided by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA).

Although the Concert is free and open to the public, donations to benefit the work of Seamen’s Church Institute in the community will be accepted at the door.

For further information, call the Seamen’s Church Institute at 401-847-4260 or visit the website for each organization, www.seamensnewport.org and www.riwe.org.
