UPDATE: Kennedy Undergoing Surgery for Brain Cancer

John Eagan

A senator known for taking to the front lines in the battle for health care reform, Senator Ted Kennedy is now fighting for his own life.
The Senator is now undergoing a 5 to 6 hour procedure for his malignant brain tumor.
Surgeons at the Duke University Medical Center are performing the operation.
After a seizure on May 17th, doctors later announced Kennedy had a malignant glioma diagnosis with a median survival of 12 to 15 months.
One day later Kennedy self-medicated himself at the helm of his sailboat.
Following the surgery, Senator Kennedy will recover for about a week before beginning radiation and chemotherapy in Boston.
And he says after the treatment he expects to return to the Senate.
