Union Employees On Edge About Their Future After Talks with Governor Stall

John Eagan

The hot topic in Rhode Island's state house right now is a debate that is heating up between the governor and the state's largest worker's union.

The governor says he's done negotiating, but the union says the settlement was not a product of negotiations but discussions.  Now the labor relations board will decide what's next, and employees are on edge.

ABC 6 reporter Julie Ruditzky has the story...

Do you think it is fair for someone making 20k to pay 7.13% and someone making 90k to pay 4.95% Of their salary for a family health care plan? This is what the Governor wants for yr 1. Year 2: 14.35% for the poor and 5.31% for the rich. Year 3: 15.32% for the poor 5.68% for the rich. Year 4: 16.37% for the poor 6.06% for the rich. Does this sound fair to you?

This is typical. A majority of the house and senate won't pay either. This governor is taking care of his friends and the people of this state can't see it. He won't even entertain Blue Cross bidding again. The CEO of united healthcare is his friend. Need I say more? If all state employees across the board paid a little it would work. But the governor only cares about the rich in this state. Nothing new about politics in Rhode Island.
