Standoff Continues Between Governor and Council 94

John Eagan

A Providence court is now tangled up in Rhode Island's budget crisis Wednesday night and it's all thanks to a standoff between Governor Carcieri and the state's largest worker's union.

It is a waiting game now while a superior court judge decides whether to block Governor Don Carcieri from raising health care for state employees who rejected a contract proposal.

Council 94 is accusing the governor of failing to negotiate a contract, calling their meetings only discussions.  But the governor filed court papers stating he negotiated in good faith.

The union people voted no. Why should they get raises. The money has run out. The gravy train is off the tracks. Health care is out of control. Because we have to support and pay for illegal and the lazy peoples health care, and give them checks for the rest of their lives. Politicians just care about the vote of these individuals. We have to make the inteligent ones in the state house to stop the spending or get them out. Its our fault for letting this group stay on smith hill.
