Years after 'Operation Plunder Dome', one of the men busted in the corruption scandal found out Wednesday whether he would get to keep his retirement on the city's dime.

Back in the day he was Mayor Buddy Cianci's right hand man, and for 8 1/2 years Frank Corrente's official role in the administration was 'Chief of Staff'.

But he was later convicted of racketeering, conspiracy and extortion in the 'Operation Plunderdome' investigation.  After serving more than 4 years in prison, Corrente's $70,000 a year city pension was stripped from him.

Today he is 79-years old, retired, and now wants the money he believes he is owed to help him and his wife enjoy what's left of their golden years.

His lawyer took the complaint to the retirement board, saying Corrente was a public servant for dozens of years, and should be rewarded for his years of service to Providence before the scandal.

In a 7 to 5 vote on Wednesday, the board agreed, voting to give Corrente more than $1,800 a month.  That is less than the $5,800 he would have received if he hadn't been convicted.

But Providence Mayor David Cicilline is outraged by the result.
