With the dangers of global warming, SUN SMARTS is ABC6’s summer-long Family-to-Family, public-service campaign focusing on the danger of skin cancer.
Lifespan, Rhode Island’s first and largest health system, is a not-for-profit organization led by a board of volunteers and community leaders. Founded in 1994, Lifespan includes five partner hospitals known around the country, including RI Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
ABC6, in cooperation with Lifespan, will be going to five area beaches on five of the most heavily trafficked beach days, setting up skin cancer screening sites. Lifespan’s Board Certified Dermatologists will be on hand, screening beach-goers and teaching the importance of "safe sunning" techniques.
With parents concerned for their children’s health and well-being while in the sun, SUN SMARTS is a great way for families to have “safe sunning” integrated into their daily practices. All five events combined make SUN SMARTS the ultimate, and largest “whole family” event of the summer in Southern New England.
Here is a list of scheduled events:
(RAINDATE THURSDAY, JULY 3RD)
(RAINDATE FRIDAY, JULY 18TH)
(RAINDATE AUGUST 1st)
(RAINDATE AUGUST 15TH)
(RAINDATE AUGUST 29TH)
