Statement from ACT

Chris Boardman

After repeated refusals by Parker Gavigan to disclose even the most basic details about the obviously sensational, ratings-driven story he was planning for tonight so we could get a fair hearing, I am issuing you the following statement providing you with the facts about ACT, its business practices and why it has achieved a superior rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Please note that since (ABC6 General Manager) Steve Doerr in a February 2 e-mail to us said “Please be assured that any story we will do will be done with care and the utmost attention to getting it right” and “I can assure you that our news department always works diligently to be fair, accurate and balanced” we trust that you will finally fulfill that promise by reading our statement as part of Mr. Gavigan’s report.

Thank you,

Erin Cameron

  • Parents are always welcome to bring their children to our free auditions, even if they have no interest in enrolling in classes. We are thrilled so many in Providence thanked us afterward for providing their children with a fun afternoon and unique experience.

  • We will never enroll a child unless a parent is fully informed about each and every aspect of our program.

  • ACT is a legitimate acting school. Parents of our students repeatedly tell us how much they enjoy the unique knowledge, self-confidence and insights their children gain from our teachers and the casting directors we work with.

  • In term of “success stories,” we view every one of the thousands of children who have had great experiences with us as a “success story.” We are additionally gratified that so many are already planting the seeds for professional work.

  • If any parents have problems, we resolve them, which is why we have an excellent record of serving consumers. We have a superior Better Business Bureau rating, which is earned only when you do provide great service.

It is a shame that there are a few having a bad experience with ACT. I am having a great experience. There are no guarantees in life and to expect a school to tell you your child is going to become a great actress and then believe them is a bit irresponsible. This industry is known by most to be a challenging industry to break into. What ACT provides is a great place for kids and parents to learn about the industry so we can be prepared. There are hundreds of kids having a great experience

Sorry, I did not leave my city last comment. Per the BBB website and as of today "ACT" which parents did sign an agreement with this Company name on the contract, they cannot provide a reliability report for ACT. http://central-northern-western-arizona.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=30&bbb=1126&firm=97008060 The BBB report was that the report on this business is being updated and can provide any information and to check back in a few weeks for the reliability report.

The classes are sub par at best. We are disappointed with the quality of this program. Our daughter has received poor instruction. We have been trying to resolves issues with this company for several months. I am not sure how they can state that they resolve issues. I have been waiting for a response to some very simple questions for over a week. I simply wanted to know their alias names and what name they registered with at the secretary of state Ohio. I have received no response.

We signed my daughter with ACT in Sept. 2008 in Cincy after performing the audition and was chosen. Lily convinced us that our daughter (who has little to no experience) had the "look" and "would make her investment a million times over". After researching ACT, we found that this would not be the best situation and tried to cancel. We were denied! Lily stated that she was not affiliated with ACT. Now I find that she is part owner in the "The" conventions. They misrepresented who they are.
