Cal, Ruth and Family, So sorry to hear the news about Kyle.I remember him as a nice youngster. Watching him play football, you could tell he was going to be a leader. I hope you can find comfort in the fond memories of raising such a fine young man.

I was a member of the crew that brought Capt VanDeGiesen to Dover AFB. To his family, I'd like to say what an honor it was to bring him back home to you, though I assure you I'd rather it have been under different circumstances. You are all in my prayers. It was a very sobering day that I still can't seem to shake off, watching nine cases be carried off the back of my jet. His name will be added to the list of others that I've carried home. It's a list I won't soon (or ever) forget.

My prayers go out to the Marines Family. My cousin is also a marine and he was on one of those helicopters that crashed.

Kyle, it was an honor to know you. You've been a real gentleman and I will never forget your smile that you always gave to everybody. My thoughts are with Megan and the rest of the family. It breaks my heart to know that they must suffer such a great loss. I was hoping we could talk in German one day, since you wanted to learn that language. We will never forget you "und wir werden dich sehr vermissen!" Charles and Christiane Blackman - Camp Pendleton

As a friend of all those who wear the uniform, I send my deepest sympathy to the entire family. My job is to recognize all who have served and acknowledged all those that have lost their lives in combat.

God Bless the VanDeGiesen family. We thank you for this ultimate sacrifice made for the rest of us. Kyle was a true role model. Would love to see this hero honored by having the town/state rename the street his family lives on to Marine Captain Kyle VanDeGiesen Way.

Kyle was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. A role model, a hero, a husband, brother, son, father, and to me, a wonderful friend. We will never forget you, Kyle, and are so very lucky to have known you.
