WLNE announces new evening anchor

Jason Nye

Allison Alexander has been named as the 6 and 11pm anchor for WLNE-TV/ABC6, Global Broadcasting's ABC affiliate serving the Providence, RI market. The announcement was made today by WLNE Vice-President and General Manager Stephen Doerr.

"Allison Alexander is one of the brightest, most talented journalists working in local media", said Doerr. "Her wit, warmth, and energetic presentation are just what the doctor ordered for Providence and for WLNE's rapidly growing news programs. Allison is a major talent and a terrific person, and we warmly welcome her to the WLNE family".

Prior to joining WLNE, Alexander was the popular morning and noon anchor at WOIO, the CBS affiliate in Cleveland. She has also served as an anchor/reporter at KGUN in Tucson, KSLA in Shreveport, Louisiana and KTEN in Sherman, TX.

"I am delighted to be joining WLNE, one of the fastest-growing, most innovative news organizations in the business", said Alexander. "Providence is an exciting place to work and a wonderful place to live"

An outstanding anchor, Allison Alexander is also an award-winning reporter, having captured the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for reporting. She has also been honored by the Society of Professional Journalists and Associated Press for Excellence in Journalism.

A graduate of the acclaimed Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, Allison and her husband Craig will relocate to Providence in December. Her appointment is effective January 1st.

Hey Allie, I was bored and flipping around and saw you. I didn't know about all the acomplishments that you have made. Congrads, to think the last time we talked was in high school. You did all the normal "smart girl/cute girl" things. Now your drive has put you on the top. I always thought you were going places, I didn't know it was going to be on T.V. Keep up the great work, hope to see you again. By the way Beth has two kids, what about you?

I could not believe that the local ABC affiliate in Cleveland had managed to acquire on their staff someone as talented and beautiful as you and it was no surprise to me that you were apparently "hired-away" for what I would hope was a very healthy increase in pay to now broadcast in Providence. Although I miss seeing you, your absence is a blessing in disguise as I am now able to now no longer watch television, free from the fear of missing you. It is just too bad that tv is on the way out.....
