Narragansett Councilman/Bar Owner Accused of Lying to Police

One night recently, a popular Narragansett bar may have stayed open a little too late.
Officials say there were some people inside Pancho O'Malley's, drinking more than an hour after the legal closing time.
Police immediately confronted the owner, who happens to be local town councilman George Lenihan.
They say Lenihan lied to the officers, telling them he was all alone in the bar.
But police did some investigating and eventually found two people hiding in a locked room that Lenihan initially said he didn't have a key to.
Now the councilman may be facing obstruction charges for not cooperating with police.

This is absurd. The door was locked, which means that the bar was essentially closed. He was probably just hanging out with a couple of friends after closing up. Big deal. Apparently the police of that town are bored and just looking for something to do. And why is ABC6 reporting on this? Who cares? Its a bar owner and a couple of friends hanging out after closing. Get a life people!

I live in new york city, if three people were shot in this bar it would not make the news. You should be reporting on things a little more important like $4.00 gas and soldiers dieing in Iraq. get your priorities straight. Also it seems like the cops in this town have a little to much time on their hands maybe it's time for a winter lay off!

I commend the actions of the Narragansett Sgt. The Narragansett PD should be proud to have someone like that working for them, because he was not afraid to stand up to Mr. Lenihan. Mr. Lenihan is not above the law. However, the Town of Narragansett should be disappointed in the actions of their cowardly town council member who ran and hid. Mr. Lenihan does not sound like someone who would stand up for the residents of its town. Again great job Sgt.
