Bear Watch 2008: Locals Weigh in on Numerous Sightings

John Eagan

Just last week "Fluffy" was spotted poking around in the backyards of Kingston and North Kingstown.
The latest sighting puts this black bear in Westerly, some 40 miles away, moving at a breakneck speed.
In the predawn hours Tuesday, Westerly Police reported 2 calls, one saying the bear was in a swampy area off of Route 1, and another reporting that the animal was spotted in the sleepy little neighborhood of Sherwood Drive.
A short time later another sighting was called in only a few miles south.
The mysterious bear has been doing a good job staying out of the public eye, popping up every few days.
Folks in Westerly hope he keeps the disappearing act going.
ABC 6 reporter Parker Gavigan has the latest on "Bear Watch 2008"...
