ABC 6 News Director, BJ Finnell Pays Tribute to TV News Pioneer Tim Russert

John Eagan

Friday afternoon all of us at ABC 6 News learned of the sudden passing of 'Meet the Press' host and television news pioneer, Tim Russert.  Only 58-years old, Russert was taken from us far too soon.

It is events like this that effect us in the news business very strongly.  And for one of us, the news of Tim Russert's death cut much deeper.

Our news director, BJ Finnell knew Tim Russert long ago when they worked at NBC together.

BJ is in the newsroom now to discuss Tim Russert's legacy as a TV news icon as well as the other, less publicized side of the man:  a friend of the working class, a dedicated family man, and a huge Buffalo Bills fan...

Tim Russert had a passion and spirit for politics that shined through everyone's tv's. He had a way about him that made you want to stop whatever you were doing and just listen. Yet, he never seemed above the middle class, it was like you were listening to the neighbor down the street or next door. I will sadly miss him and his smile. My condolences to his family and co-workers.
