Woonsocket Mayor Having Second Thoughts About Resigning

John Eagan

Will she stay or will she go?

Woonsocket's longest serving mayor, Susan Menard, was set to resign on June 15th.  That is, until she changed her mind.

And it is this indecisiveness that isn't sitting well with at least one city councilor.

Back in March, Menard announced she was leaving, just 4 months into her 7th term.

But her decision came the same week that Police Chief Michael Houle and Deputy Chief Richard Dubois stepped down following allegations of misconduct.

Then Menard was the center of an ethics investigation after allegedly giving out city business to a family member.

If Menard stays, she's got a year and a half term to finish out.  If she leaves, the city council president will take over.

ABC 6 reporter Erica Ricci spoke with Menard by phone from Utah...

Guh! What? Is she going through menopause or something? Get out of office lady, you tried to pull a fast one and you got caught, your political career is over and nobody in their right mind would ever re-elect you. Please, just go away and stop embarrassing yourself and the rest of us with your negative publicity.

She made the decision to resign. What does she think, she can just change her mind at the last minute and all will be ok. The City Council should keep her letter and make her re-run for election when the time comes and see what the rest of the residents think.

You have got to be kidding me! She should be held to her resignation. Did she only do that because she was possibly going to be under the spot light and invistigated for the "family" deal and the Police motorcycles? Bye-Bye Mrs. Mayor!!

Do You Think the Rhode Island General Assembly Will Fix the Budget Deficit?

  • HA! No, they're going to chase their tails and point fingers and get nothing done. Business as usual.
  • I think some progress can be made. It's going to take some painful cuts and creativity, but we can do this.
