Shaquille O'Neal Disses Former Teammate Kobe Bryant in Freestyle Rap

The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - Was it just Shaquille O'Neal having a little fun at the expense of an old teammate? Or was it an intentional rip on a former friend designed to rub a little salt in the wound of losing in the NBA Finals. Only Shaq knows for sure.

And he's saying he was just making fun when he was spitting a few rap verses that included digs at former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant. In a video posted on TMZ.com, a grinning Shaq raps: "Kobe couldn't do without me" and blames Bryant for breaking up his marriage.  But when asked about the comments by ESPN, Shaq said "it was all done in fun" and that he is "totally cool with Kobe."

Shaq and Kobe last played together in 2004. O'Neal won an NBA title with the Heat two years later. However, Bryant and the Lakers didn't reach the finals again until this month, and the Boston Celtics beat L.A. 4 games to 2.

Do You Think the Rhode Island General Assembly Will Fix the Budget Deficit?

  • HA! No, they're going to chase their tails and point fingers and get nothing done. Business as usual.
  • I think some progress can be made. It's going to take some painful cuts and creativity, but we can do this.
