2 Dead as Plane Crashes in Middletown

2 people are confirmed dead as a small plane crashes in Middletown, RI.

The plane, a small single engine Piper PA-28 crashed shortly after taking off from Newport State Airport.

Witnesses tell ABC 6 that the plane caught fire after hitting the ground. When rescue crews showed up on the scene they pulled one person from the plane with burns on his body. The other two people in the plane were confirmed dead.

The NTSB and FAA are both investigating the crash.
