UPDATE: Search Continues for Missing Boater in Portsmouth

Neil Remiesiewicz

A search for a missing boater that was suspended at dusk Monday continues Tuesday morning near the Sakonnet River Bridge.

65-year-old Bernard Mochan of Clinton, Connecticut suffered a head injury - possibly caused by a boom striking him - and fell from his boat into the water. Search crews have recovered some articles of clothing that have been determined to be his.

He was not wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard reports that the initial call for help came from the Mochan's wife aboard the 32-foot sailboat "Elizabeth" at about 4:50pm
