Relentless rain and whipping winds...this round of summer storms that pounded Rhode Island Thursday morning left a couple of calling cards:
Police were hopping from accident to accident, one on I-195 West in East Providence, where a puddle in the left lane threw drivers for a loop. Two cars spun out and crashed. No one was seriously injured...
Over in North Providence they were holding their collective breath on Superior View Boulevard. The weather let up, but a tree branch came down on an electrical wire. Then another line came down and started a fire. The wire had so much juice that it ate a hole in the concrete, then jumped onto the front porch and burned it.
Fire fighters say not much they could do but run some hoses into the house to protect it, and wait for national grid to shut off the power.
With the power down, tree cutters moved in and moved the 40-foot section of the tree off of the power lines.
ABC 6 reporter Coleen Harry has the story of a hectic day in the Greater Providence area...
