I would like to see law enforcement look at this video before it makes the newscast, this is a news story without the investigation in place- This does not actually help the animals, what would be helpful is when there is animal cruelty situations and charges and convictions take place, the news actually covers that. Check the Providence Journal/Evening Bulletin Jun 3, 2006, it concerns a pipe bomb that was used by a person living at 11-13 Richter street, who belongs to a Laotian gang. A lady lost her eye from that pipe bomb. Killing ducks in a humane fashion is not a priority with these people that live at that house. So those of you defending these people have myopic vision.

It’s not that simple. Did they obtain these ducks legally or were they taken from a park? The city of Providence does not legally allow people to have fowl on their properties. Any way we can charge Gov. Carcieri with cruelty to humans? I think this what we should all worry about as he is running this state into the ground and claiming he's saving tax payers money but in essence what he's really doing is cutting programs from the most needy behind a cloud with his "Eat and Heat" smokescreen that most people won't qualify for. You see the if you can't qualify for food stamps, you wont qualify for Heat assistance. This is the real cruelty going on in this state.

Do we actually know that this is illegal? Many people raise chickens and eat them but what I have a concern with is whether it's sanitary as people live right next door. I would doubt that it would be legal to slaughter a duck in a residential neighborhood so if this is the case they should be fined but not charged with cruelty. That house where this happened has a history. A gang member was arrested for using a pipe bomb in which a lady lost her eye. You can find that story in the Providence Journal. For those of you sticking up for these people, there is more to come on this story that you will not be able to defend. Families that have lived in that neighborhood for years should not have to live in fear. This was not about preparing a meal.There are already investigations going on by different agencies.

As a chef I would rather have a freshly killed animal by my own hands. My grandfather would cut the heads off of fresh chicken and I have never tasted such a great piece of chicken. Paul Mueller, ABC6, and Defenders of Animals needed to tell this story. I live in this neighborhood. My children don't need to see this cruelty taking place at their age. Providence Animal Control was told about this months ago and did nothing. Cruelty implys that the act is intended to cause suffering. It looks to me that these animals were slaughtered for food purposes. Certainly, if there is an ordinance against slaughtering animals for food, then they should be cited for an infraction. In my many travels to Asia, I can tell you that this seems to fall in category of "preparing for lunch". Is this really much different than boiling your lobster alive? I come from a family where it is tradition to slaughter a pig every fall and share the "bounty" with every family member. So a scene where animals are killed for food does not desturb me. What does is the method the animals were killed. I understand what these people were doing, but I think they should have brought the animals to a person who could humainly slaughter the ducks legaly. Or, just buy their animals freshly slaughtered like my family does.

I bet these folks got these ducks for free on Craigs list. It is normal for folks to get livestock for food, and yes you need to kill them, and its not pretty. I am a volunteer on a national level, in the sometimes "ugly, abusive world of animal rescue". To hear that this abuse and cruelty was going on in my own state sickened me. Thank god for the person who "blew the whistle" on this heinous act. Since they live in the city, aren't there ordinances that exist to disallow keeping ducks in your yard to begin with? The need to prosecute is fully in order, but in RI, our penalties for abuse is too weak, like a slap on the wrist.
