Some at Lincoln High School Think it's Too Soon to Head Back to School

Tim Martin

Just days after a car crashed into the side of Lincoln High School, students will be returning on a regular schedule, but some say it is still too soon.

Looking at Lincoln High School today, you'd almost never know there was a devastating crash a few days ago, the side of the building boarded up, as well as receiving Clarence from inspectors, but the memory of what happened is still fresh in some people's minds.

It is the memory of what happened that has some saying that it is still too soon to return to school, and are upset that come Monday it's back to school.

The school does want students, and parents to know that they will be providing grief councilors for those that want to make use of them, to help students cope with Friday's event.

I go to Lincoln High School and we're not saying that we wanted a day off, its just that people at my school just act like nothing happened. Monday morning the principle said nothing about Jay Paul or what happened. And the wall placed to block off the damaged area now has all these happy and smiling posters over it. Whenever my friends and I pass it, we just roll our eyes. In my opinion, its pathetic. If they want us to get over it and move on, don't sugar coat it. Its disrespectful to Jay Paul

I agree with Ed from Providence even though some think it is not enough "grieving time". There is about 1200 teens in this school and I am sure most have working parents who would rather have them somewhere other than hanging out unsupervised. The school has grief couselors available. There was a student suicide in my classroom when I was a teen (shot himself in the head in front of all) and being in school was best....surrounded by people who were going through the same tragedy helps.

It is time to deal with tragedies, the sooner the better. It does not mean no grieving, and remberances but it is time to also remember the living are living and this man is dead. It is not pleasant situtation but it happened. Please do not forget about this man's family since they are suffering the most.
