UPDATE: Friends of Attleboro Kidnapping Suspect Say Police Have the Wrong Guy

John Eagan

Friends of the man accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old boy from his front yard in Attleboro are speaking out.  And according to them, police have the wrong guy.

46-year old Mark Rantanen is accused of attempting to kidnap the teen from his yard on Holden Street in Thursday morning.  Police say Rantanen dragged the boy into the woods nearby.  The boy eventually got away, leading police on an intense manhunt for the suspect.

Rantanen's family and friends gathered outside of Attleboro District Court on Friday.  They believe police arrested the wrong man, citing that the description of the suspected kidnapper did not match that of Rantanen's.  They say police are targeting Rantanen because he used to be homeless.

Rantanen has since pleaded 'not guilty' to the charges.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
