Only On ABC 6 - Blue Cross Working to Secure Agreement With Local Hospitals

Bryan Monaghan

ABC 6 News has learned that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island is working to renew an agreement with Care New England, to secure service for its members at local hospitals. If the new agreement is not reached by the end of the year, members will find themselves unable to go to several local hospitals, including Kent County Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital.

ABC 6 News Reporter Julie Ruditzky has more from Providence.

In response to Dr. Schneider; what about the hundreds of families that have OB's that only deliver at Women & Infants? I don't see my family shouldering the cost of a $22K C-Section when we have BCBS Insurance. Even if our family was willing to deliver at another hospital, it would be Kent, another Care New England Hospital.

It would be a tragedy for patients with high risk pregnancies that need services at W&I to have to pay more out of pocket if an agreement cannot be reached. I may remind you, though, that most pregnancies are not "high risk" and could easily be served by their local community hospitals like South County Hospital. Steven Schneider, MD South County OB/GYN
