Taunton - A Superior Court jury has found Buddy Smith guilty on a series of charges related to allegations he raped a mentally disabled Tiverton man.

Smith, 23, of 862 Charles St., Fall River, was found guilty of rape, indecent assault and battery on a mentally retarded person, and witness intimidation, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's office.

Smith had been accused of raping and terrorizing the Tiverton man, identified as J in court documents, during a span lasting just over two years beginning in 2004. J testified in court that the incidents began after he met Smith on telephone chatline.

Smith then began following J taking him to various locations throughout Fall River, where he would orally and anally rape him.
It was not yet known if Judge Barbara A. Dortch-Okara would sentence Smith today.
