ABC 6 News Reporter Tom Langford has details on today's news regarding Ryan Greenberg. Greenberg's trial was to begin later this month, for his role in the 2007 boating death of his friend, Pat Murphy. Below is the information released by the RI Judiciary.
May 12, 2009: In the matter of State of Rhode Island v. Ryan Greenberg, the defendant is expected to plead no contest on May 18 to a charge of reckless boating, death resulting, before Superior Court Associate Justice Daniel A. Procaccini.
Greenberg is charged in the July 17, 2007, death of Patrick Murphy, 17, on the Barrington River.
Judge Procaccini announced that the plea agreement was reached today after several conferences during recent months with attorneys in the case. The judge expects to take the plea in Providence County Superior Court at 11 a.m. on May 18. Greenberg will not be sentenced at that time. Sentencing tentatively has been set for July 22, Judge Procaccini said.
