Vigil to Honor R.I.'s Developmentally Disabled

EXETER, R.I. (AP) - Advocates for the developmentally disabled
are holding a four-day vigil at the marker of the original "Rhode
Island Home for the Feeble-Minded."

The building in Exeter, that became known as the Ladd Center,
was ordered closed after an investigation into poor conditions
there the late 1970s.

The vigil is designed to honor all of those who were housed
there during the Ladd Center's 75-year history. It will be followed
by a rally at the Rhode Island State House on Wednesday in support
of programs for the disabled.
