It was a long selection process, with plenty of in-need backyards explored, but congratulations to Linda from Middletown, RI on winning the ABC6 X-Treme Makeover: Backyard Edition! Check out Linda's entry letter below! Thanks to everyone for their entry!
Life of Service in need!
My name is Linda and I am a 19 year breast cancer survivor, single mom and founder of The Healing Co-Op, www.thehealingcoop.org. I founded this organization after my own experience with cancer and have devoted my life to the organization. I built the home in such a way where my living and the life of the organization can live harmoniously. I do EVERYTHING here but do not have a penny to fix our yard, which we have plenty of. It would mean so much to me/us to have a yard we could enjoy. I am praying for your help!

I didn't enter this contest, but it sure doesn't look like Linda needed it either! Shame contest? Fixed? At the very least, it certainly does seems like the contest was interrupted as 'who has the saddest story' or something to that effect, rather than as it was advertised, 'who has the worst yard.' If they were looking for the saddest case, then go ahead and admit it, and no one would even have minded, but don’t mislead people. If I had entered, sure I’d be happy for the sick person winnin

Censored - go away and get a life. This is not a site for complainers. Maybe doing some labor in your own yard will help with your depression. All I know is this kind of ranting won't. Congrats, Linda and Coop. I can't think of a more deserving winner! Looking forward to the blessing of the new backyard. Carl

What a shame that these people cannot think of anybody but themselves. And how little you know about the winner is evident. When she says she has dedicated her life she is not lying. The house is free-leased to the nonprofit so it doesn't matter what it is "worth." She has nothing but gives so much. Shame on you. Without the Coop my mother's cancer and ultimate death would have been unbearable. Thank you Channel 6 for selecting the worthiest candidate. Patty

Congratulations on winning. I can't wait to see the X-Treme Makeover. When will it be? I thought it was supposed to be on June 26th, I guess with the rain and all, maybe the date changed. Anyone happen to know?

I think it is wonderful that you are doing this for the winner. My mother in law died of cancer, but spent a lot of time at the Healing Coop. It helped not only her but my entire family TREMENDOUSLY! To have such a great supportive place win is wonderful. It is not only helping the owner but many many people dealing with cancer. For people to think this is not a deserving winner is very sad. This will help many instead of few!

Hi! I just went to your web site today to sign up...I am late. UGH! I wanted to submit my backyard for one reason: it needs work and it is a reflection of my "depression." Since my Mom died two years ago, I have found it so challenging to get focused and move forward. I was her primary caregiver and before that, Mom and I took care of my Dad. Mom died of breast cancer that spread to her bones and liver, etc. I cared for my Mom for 17 years and used to have a pretty yard with flowers. Now, ugh!

P.S. I just found out I may lose my teaching job. Again, my backyard is a reflection of all of my "depression." Mom dying, losing my job, and not being motivated and yet trying. But my thanks for doing something positive to help others...even with my lack of motivation, I try every day to help others, whether a student or a neighbor. God bless you in your work at Channel 6. Best always! Bobby

My original comment, I suppose, left too much personal information. But it's not hard to figure out who the person who won is, how much her house is valued at...and WONDER was there not someone more IN NEED of what was being provided. Look it up.

Censored I am with you. Isn't it funny that during the contest people could leave inappropriate comments & they did not delete them but now they do. I have been an avid viewer for way too many years but this all smells. Good bye channel 6 Hello channel 10.

as I walked away after typing my comment I realized that for the people who did not win,(like me) to write the comments they did just proves to show you that is this day and age of parents not telling there children no, all of them expected to win and are angry at the winner! its truely ashame, as a mother of 4 I hope I can teach my children to be happy for the one who wins and hope for better luck next time! not the poor me attitude the losers truely showed! again Congrats to the winner!

So you censor comments that are constructively critical of your contest. I left a very appropriate question and comment that was deleted.
