You actually think that ruining a fishermans career, and starving his family is worth one sharks life.You think the fish trap was designed for the shark. Lets make educated comments on here please. First and foremost, the entire ocean isn't filled with fish traps. My father is a commercial fisherman, and I've been out on the boat w.him. The livelihood of fisherman is not the threat or devil that environmentalists like to portray them to be. The shark swam into a net- thats the idea of the net- the catch fish. Not sharks, fish. If people have a problem with one of RI's biggest industries (and always has been) than fine. I just hope I never see you eating seafood.

I think its awful that the shark had to end up trapped in the first place. I bet those men were so happy about themselves. People beat their animals and get away with. Its just like animal abuse. Sounds like the shark was either dead or near-death when it was hauled in. With the numbers of this species dwindling, it's a shame to hear of stories of their unnatural deaths. It's also a shame that the media tried to sensationalize every white shark as some kind of threat to swimmers.

The party who was involved should be punished. Understanding that the animal was more than likely dead prior to pulling it out of the water(didn't see any gunshot holes). These folks should still be fined and have their commercial license revoked. One of the risks of this style of fishing. You make your bed, sleep in it. Long time icthyologist or claim to be!!!

I have been diving in RI for almost a decade. My passion for the ocean is magnified each year by the new experiences I encouter under water during the day and at night. I feel soo comfortable in the ocean, its great. But, there is one thing I never take for granted and that is that I am a visitor in these waters. and if trespass its free game.

I can't beleive no one mentioned the two dead whales bringing the sharks to our area. Years ago a fisherman cut off a piece of a dead whale and used it to hook the biggest great white ever caught in these waters. When heard of the dead whales I mentioned that it could attract the sharks. Not using my beach pass any time soon.
