Suspect Arrested After Alleged Woonsocket Knife-Point Robbery

Chris Boardman

On Tuesday June 30th at about 10:30 pm a store clerk at U-Save Liquors on 399 Clinton Street reported a person later identified as Kevin Mortimer ( 20 years of age and a resident of Woonsocket) entered his business. Mortimer asked the clerk for assistance in locating some merchandise. The clerk attempted to assist Mortimer by leading him to the item in the store. Mortimer then grabbed the clerk from behind holding a knife to his neck. The clerk struggled with Mortimer and later gave up without being injured. Mortimer attempted to lock the store with clerk inside. During Mortimer’s attempt to lock the store the clerk was able to retrieve a handgun from his office and ordered Mortimer to surrender. Mortimer failed to comply to the store clerks demands and fled the store on foot. The store clerk called the police and reported the incident.

When responding officers responded to the area they quickly began a check of the area for the suspect.  Patrol Officer Michael Flood located Mortimer behind Kennedy Manor on Clinton Street. Mortimer was arrested after a struggle with arresting officers. A knife was located on his person. He was subsequently brought to the station and charged with Armed Robbery, 2 counts of Simple Assault on the responding police officers, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction. On July 1st he was brought to District Court and was held pending a Bail Review Hearing.
