Teenage Suspect Arrested in Killing of Young New Bedford Mother

Chris Boardman

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A New Bedford teen has been arrested for allegedly killing a young mother in a shooting outside his home.

Seventeen-year-old Erick Cournoyer was arrested on Thursday and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Cournoyer is charged with killing 18-year-old Bianca Maria Rosado on Wednesday night and wounding her boyfriend, 17-year-old Victor Camacho.

Camacho was in stable condition at a local hospital.

Police haven't released a motive, but told The Standard-Times of New Bedford they don't think it's gang related.

Rosado graduated from New Bedford High School last month. In her yearbook, she said her happiest times were when she was with "Victor Camacho and our son."

It was the fourth homicide in New Bedford in less than three weeks.
