RI ACLU Objects to Orange 'Flagging' of Loud Party Hosts

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island civil liberties group is asking a judge to strike down a town ordinance that allows police to place orange stickers on homes that have hosted loud parties.

The Rhode Island affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union said the Narragansett ordinance is vague, reduces property values and unfairly "stigmatizes" residents.

The ACLU sued last year over the ordinance on behalf of the Rhode Island State Senate as well as four students and three landlords.

Marc DeSisto, a lawyer for the town, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday. But he has said in court papers that the ordinance is legal under Rhode Island law.

And if you're somebody trying to sell property or rent out an apartment, it's YOUR fault you live there. It's YOUR fault you didn't do enough research about the area before you just dished out the money to buy the place, LIVE WITH IT! Again- spoiled, spoiled people. Expecting everything to be absolutely perfect for them. We have other things to worry about...

This has to be a joke, right? Because THIS is what we need to waste our taxes on. How about you all stop being spoiled brats! Life is about lessons. You live, you learn. Don't expect everything to be solved FOR you. I've lived in several different apartments where other tenants have hosted loud parties. If they don't listen to me when I ask them to please quiet down, I confront police. PROBLEM SOLVED!
