Having driven that road at sun down, I will say, exactly where it happened is incredibly tough to see hat's coming at you. However, there is no excuse to be driving drunk. You can be the greatest teacher, coach, whatever. But all that doesn't really matter if you kill someone while driving down the road at 8pm at night drunk. Quite frankly, I am not surprised this happened.... and that Mr. Fennessey was the driver, it is sad, and i feel realy bad for his family.

Fennessey is the issue here, not the police, they charged him, and Fennessey refused a chemical test in his home, and at this point, the police have informed him that he killed someone, and left the scene, and Fennessey refused to cooperate with the police. No accident,mistake..Drunk, and protecting his hide!

I agree with LC. You cannot blame the police for a decision made by an adult to drink and drive. The police cannot have ESP and predict on what rode a drunk driver will be traveling at any given time. The police force can be on every street in their town/city at the same time. It's called personal responsibility. My heart goes out to the victim's family as well as the driver's family. We all know they will be condemned in this small town for what their husband/father/grandfather did.

there are two cops on duty at a time, during the summer they mainly focus on the beach and stopping underage drinking, which in the past summers have been a problem. pointing out that the LCPD doesn't do their job, has nothing to do with what happened. there are only two of them to cover every area in little compton, though it isn't big they can't be everywhere. A 66 year old, recently retired middle school teacher, should know the right and wrong of drunk driving.

It's true the police in LC don't stop drunk drivers that they know....but the speed limit on that section of the road is too high. The road is very narrow and cars fly down that hill from the east without using much caution. I've nearly been hit there on bicycle and foot.

Why bring road speed limits up for this story? 40 mph is fine on that road, the fact is that the driver was drunk, and that is the issue. The driver, whom I know, has been a drunk for years.
