Hit and Run Kills Moped Operator in Little Compton

Chris Boardman

LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. (AP) - Police in Little Compton say a pickup driver faces charges after a hit-and-run accident that killed a man riding a moped.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash that occurred on Peckham Road at about 8 p.m. Thursday. His name was not immediately released.

Police said the pickup driver left the scene after the accident but was later located with the help of an eyewitness.

The driver, whose name was also not immediately released, is expected to be arraigned Friday on several charges including driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

The police cannot have ESP and predict on what rode a drunk driver will be traveling at any given time. The police force can be on every street in their town/city at the same time. It's called personal responsibility. My heart goes out to the victim's family as well as the driver's family.
