One person was reportedly killed when a flat bed tow track carrying an SUV collided with another vehicle on Rt. 495 in Wareham Thursday (10-08-09) evening around 10:30 PM. The flat bed tow truck also apparently hit the Rt. 195 bridge abutment and overpass during the accident. At least one victim was reportedly ejected from their vehicle. State Police closed down Route 495 southbound near Route 25 for several hours as they reconstructed the scene. Inspectors from Mass Highway were also called to the scene to determine the extent of damage caused to the bridge abutment and overpass. (Photo by David G. Curran)

On October 8, 2009 at approximately 10:15 pm, Trooper Michael Fitzgerald from the Massachusetts State Police Barrack in Bourne was on patrol when he happened upon a multi-car crash on Route 495 southbound at Route 25 in Wareham, which resulted in one fatality.
A flat bed tow truck, with a vehicle on the bed, struck a vehicle stopped in the breakdown lane and subsequently lost control, rolling over several times while simultaneously striking a bridge abutment. The operator of the tow truck, 52-year-old Joseph Gaultier of South Easton, was ejected from the truck and subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by responding EMS personnel.
The operator of the stopped vehicle, 55-year-old Stephanie E. Boosahda of Bass River was transported to Toby Hospital in Wareham by Wareham EMS with minor injuries.
Two lanes of travel were closed for approximately 2 hours as the investigators processed the scene.
The facts and circumstances of this investigation remain on-going at this time by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Service Section, and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. State Police were also assisted at the scene by the Wareham Police Department, Wareham Fire/EMS and the Massachusetts Highway department also assisted.
No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
