PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Seven Pawtucket parents and their children are accusing the city of giving religious schools special treatment in using public athletic fields.
A federal lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses the city of reserving a public field for exclusive use by Saint Raphael Academy, which is operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, even though junior and senior high schools had requested the same access.
The lawsuit was filed on the families' behalf by the Rhode Island branch of the American Civil Liberties Union. It seeks a court order declaring the city's actions unconstitutional.
Pawtucket City Solicitor Margaret Lynch-Gadaleta said the city doesn't discriminate against public schools but said she couldn't comment on the specifics of the lawsuit because she hadn't seen it.

ACLU? You people are a disgrace. Are you not the same people who fought to have the nativity scene removed? You people amaze me. Idiots like you are why this country is sinking. To the parents filing a law suit. For what? Are these kids not part of the community whom have parents that pay pay state tax? From my understanding, federal money is what supports this field. Do we not all pay our federal income taxes? Hey Maggie, how many law suits have you filed? You're a piece of work.
