Elected Officials Receive Threatening Letters Over Tax Increase

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An East Providence city councilman says he received a threatening letter containing white powder at his office.

Brian Coogan says the letter Thursday directed him to resign from the council. He says the message suggested that copies were sent to other members of the council.

Hazardous material crews responded to Coogan's home, and investigators are trying to determine what the substance is.

Coogan says the letter appeared to be politically motivated.

Does anyone on here have any type of education? Councilman Coogan is one of the best on that Council. He is actually doing the job he got voted for. He is a great person and until you get your facts straight, please stop making comments about things that are not true.
