We were one of the first to complain, now we are looking into transferring for the Spring semester because of the lack of responses to this situation. What will it take to get this cleaned up? Probably when someone gets so ill that they finally sue the school. The thought has crossed my mind!

Maybe we parents should get together and NOT PAy for housing next semester UNTIL ALL THE MOLD IS REMOVED. Any maybe they should leave the electricity on during the summer once this is cleaned (if they intend to clean it up!!! It's pretty sad, when you think that the townhouses were remodeled 2 years ago for the same reason!!!!!!!!

I called the school in September the day my daughter move in, and complain about the "MOLD" in the townhouse she is living in. I did receive a call back from the school a few days later, BUT my daughter already cleaned her room, so she could attend her clasess the next day. The school needs to send in 'PROFESSIONALS' to clean all the townhouses and dormintories. OK Mr. Governor what I would like to know what are you going to do about this.

What the school had to say is the complete opposite of how it is!!! When we moved it there was mold everywhere! When we complained someone showed up with a spray bottle of bleach and said "Where is it?" Now after watching this we checked our couch again and found a ton of mold! We moved it outside and are being yelled at by the RA's because it "looks bad".... The couch is staying outside!

this year i moved into pinedale and we had mold on our bathrooms, when it was pointed out by a student to the RA's we were told that it wasn't mold, someone was flinging dirt at our walls? very good response UMD in the end the students had to go buy bleach and get rid of the mold ourselves

Exactly why as a parent I am paying rent on an apartment (year round I might add) rather than pay for inadequate, dirty, overcrowded rooms. My daughter's health has improved dramatically since the move.

I graduated from UMD a couple years ago and, at orientation, an upperclassman welcomed us to "The Dirty South." The cleanliness of the campus shell has improved since my freshman year, but the upkeep of the dorms and number of overcrowding beyond intended capacity was unacceptable. I highly doubt things could have changed that much since my graduation.

UMD Student Affairs, if thats the case that things are taken care of then why is there evidence of it on tape? Also, these are "isolated incidents..." as far as I know I don't think every vent in every dorm in this campus has been checked for mold. Clearly if there is mold in more than one building then there is an issue and every HVAC system should be checked and evaluated to make sure that no more exists in other places that can make us sick. Until then clearly our health is not a priority UMD

well...I guess it's a good thing I don't have a serious mold allergy, because the school would be in big trouble. I'm SO glad this is finally out in the open, we've all been putting up with these living situatons for far too long. The statements from the school...are UNDERSTATEMENTS. They are all bigshot money makers, they don't have to live in these dorms/apartment. If they did, I'm positive their views would be different.

lets just say all my friends call UMD, "the Dirty Dart". one of the reasons I transfered out.

The reply from "Student Affairs" is laughable. I am currently a resident student, I've seen a number of apartments and dell houses that are still covered in mold and that I know have submitted work orders. I have also seen rooms after "cleaning" and it is a complete joke, the mold is not effectively removed simply made less visible.

After the cleaning ladies do make it to my suite to clean I feel like it's not even clean, it smells like they use dirty water.. This has been an issue all semester and when I brought it up I found out they should be fully cleaning our bathrooms two to three times a week, we're lucky if we see them there once a week. It has become a huge hassle I shouldn't be worrying about cleanliness in my dorm room or classrooms when we're paying so much to go here. Maybe now something will be done

Mold will not develope in a building with a HVAC system that is properly designed, installed and MAINTAINED! Accountability should lie with the maintenance management. Inspections and filter changes need to be documented, under penalty of perjury if they are falsified. This is an excellent economic climate to replace personell if the people in place are unwilling or unable to do their jobs. Eventually this issue will lead to a lawsuit. Hopefully before there is a real tragedy.

The school would rather spend their money on parking enforcement, than cleaning it. There's at least 4 new parking enforcement SUVS and officers that just drive around campus all day ticketing students trying to take more of our money. I pay $150 bucks to have my car on campus an i can only park near my dorm. I have already gotten like $50 in extra tickets for parking in a lot near the classes The school needs to get their priorities straight.

UMass Dartmouth isn't taking the steps they need too, to address disgusting situations such as this. Even the people hired to clean don't do their job. The women janitors in my dorm sit all day and complain in the common area. I love the school but hate the dorms.

There to busy knocking on doors saying were to loud, than doing something actually productive. It is the state of Massachusetts in general what more do you expect.

As an employee of UMass Dartmouth, I would never willingly send my child to the institution. The faculty are by-and-large excellent (when you can get them to teach, but that's another story), but the services offered to students as well as the facilities are simply laughable. There's no concern devoted to quality-of-life issues on campus. The "Student Affairs" response is laughable and indicative of the problem at the root of the Administration: blame everyone for everything but themselves.

I am a parent of one of those students and can assure you that NOTHING has been done. These kids have been sick from the day they moved in. I have contacted the school on many occasions, called the Dept of Health, went to the parent's website for concerns and not ONE person has responded to my calls. They simply do not want to address the issue because of the cost involved to treat mold correctly. My daughter is also in Pinedale & is always conjested, dizzy and tired. Mold makes people sick.

The school did hire a "Water and Fire Damage Repair" company over the summer to "clean" the dorms. So the school gave the job the the lowest bidder, a company which is not a mold removal company and all the did to "clean" was spray bleach and water on the counter tops. They did not solve the problem at its source, and probably will never get around to it. The administration will just make up an excuse, like they always do, and then raise our fees.

Anyone who goes to UMD knows that housing issues almost never get solved! I had a broken bed and slept on a matress on the floor for almost two weeks my senior year! My junior year we had mold so bad in our bathrooms that I showered somewhere else! I'm so happy someone is finally taking this seriously!

"Anyone who really knows UMD knows" that housing is a joke, and after living in housing for 4 years, ask any student, and they will tell you the only way to get something done with housing is to have your parents call. I personally know students that have had "word orders" submitted since the beginning of a school year, and never had them done or even The school makes it look like there doing something, but when they do "fix" the problem its the quickest and cheapest fix to make it look fixed

Anyone who really knows UMD knows that we take student concerns seriously, especially when it comes to their health. Much has been done re: H1N1 and much was done when the mold was discovered in August. EVERY time a report is received about mold now, a facilities worker immediately is dispatched to take care of the problem. It's a shame that for a moment of fame, a few students and a shameless reporter have distorted the truth.

If you REALLY want to investigate mold problems and other potential health issues, try the schools in RI, particularly RIC and URI. I cannot give my name and city because I work there and am afraid of retribution

Some courses have been taught in the dorms due to insufficient classroom space, and colleagues have reported mold in these rooms as well. Adminstration's "solution" was to keep these rooms extremely cold with A/C instead of solving the problem. Disgraceful. Where is Provost Garro and his concern for student health now?

I just picked my son up from UMASS Dartmouth, thought he might be getting the flu because he has had cold like symptoms for a couple of weeks now. He is in Pinedale and there were some HVAC trucks there when I picked him up. I just thought they were checking the heating system or something. He has a Doctor's appointment tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up, now that I think of it, it seems that he may have allergies. BTW, Chestnut dorm last year, was disgracefull. The college filthy.
