Warden, Finance Officer Suspended From RI Jail

Associated Press

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The warden and chief financial officer have been suspended from their jobs at a privately run Rhode Island
prison sued over the death of an immigration detainee.

Warden Wayne Salisbury and Chief Financial Officer Tammy Novo have been suspended with pay from the Wyatt Detention Facility in
Central Falls.

Prison board chairman Bruce Corrigan said Thursday that the suspensions were sparked by an audit that alleged Salisbury made decisions exceeding his authority. The audit accused Novo of stalling a damaging financial report.

The prison was sued by the widow of a 34-year-old Chinese immigrant who died of cancer last year after arriving at the prison. The lawsuit claims the man was abused and denied appropriate medical care.
