RI Foster Care Lawsuit to be Heard Next Week

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A federal appeals court will hear
arguments next week on a lawsuit seeking an overhaul of Rhode
Island's foster care system.

The lawsuit alleged widespread abuse and neglect of foster
children. A federal judge dismissed it last spring,

The state's child advocate appealed that decision to the 1st
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, which will hear arguments next Tuesday.

Marcia Lowry, executive director of Children's Rights, a New
York-based organization that's involved in the case, says the court has notified her that retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter will be part of a three-judge panel hearing the arguments.

Souter sat on the 1st Circuit before being tapped for the Supreme Court.

I agree with the lawsuite i have myself been a victim of the systems neglect and abuse including sexual. I believe that they need to do something and prosecute these people to the fullest degree. Its not right that children are taken from there homes and then they have to go to places where there hurt more than they were to begin with!!!!
