Alcohol, Speed, Played Role in Early Morning Burrillville Crash

Chris Boardman

At 1:00AM Wednesday, Burrillville Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Buck Hill Road just North of Wakefield Pond Road. The vehicle was traveling South on Buck Hill Road when the operator lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, going airborne and striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest in an upright position.

Operator: Scott T. Menard, age: 27 of 66 Grove Street, Pascoag RI.

Passenger: Jennifer Waters, age 33 of 202 Sayles Avenue, Pascoag RI

Passenger: Christopher J. Sauvageau, age: 26 of 48 Glen Meadow Road, Franklin Ma.

The operator and passengers were transported to U-Mass Medical Center in Worcester, MA.

Burrillville Police responded to U-Mass to see if Menard would consent to a blood-alcohol test, which he refused.

This accident remains under investigation by Ptlmn. William Lacey who is being assisted by Ptlmn. Steve Adams and Ptlmn. Henry Yakey. Connecticut State Police also assisted at the scene of the accident.

It appears that speed and alcohol did play a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.

My husband thought I was kidding when we received an email from his grandma stating that he had been in a crash and was dead.Roger Sauvageau has been trying to find a way to see his son for a few years now since we went back to his sisters wedding. She wouldn't allow him to see or talk to his dad. This is really sad for us because we were planning on seeing him no matter what and introducing his 2 half brothers and 1 half sister.I have nothing but sympathy for scott and hope he pulls through.

This is the most unfortunate of stories...Scott is my cousin as well, and he is a very good kid. I just learned of this accident today and I am completely blown away by the tragedy of it! Keep your head up Scotty, people make mistakes every day, and unfortunately you will have to live the rest of your life with this mistake! I'm so sorry for Chris's family, and also so sorry for my aunt Patty, uncle Bobby and Scott's sister Becky as well!! Stay strong!

While I don't know any of these people, I feel sorry for EVERYONE involved. Obviously if ANY of these people could re-live that night they would have done it differently. It doesn't have to be as much of a tragedy if we all learn from it and avoid the same mistake...Enough said.

I don't know these people involved, but they were all adults who decided to make a bad choice, which unfortunately led to a tragic mistake. However what if he had hit another car, yes most of us had made bad decisions in our lives, this tragedy should be a reminder of why we should teach our children to make better choices!

The driver made a great mistake, but the passengers knew what they were doing also. Let the law deal with the driver without dealing with what you people have to say. He is going to have to go threw life knowing what he did which is harder for him then what any small minded people have to say about hin. He is a good person that just made a mistake that he will need to live with 4 the est of his life.

People that know Menard will contest that he is a decent man. No one plans to ever being involved in situations like this. It was an unfortunate accident that will obviously be handled by the law. No one with a soul could go through this and not feel remorse. Slandering the driver will not help the situation, anyone involved, or family of the injured parties. There wasn't one sole mistake by the driver, they are all adults better choices could/should have been made on all of their parts.

My heart and deepest sorry goes out to the passengers and their families. I do not know them personaly, but I do know the driver very well.Menard is a good person and a good dad,he made a very bad choice to drive that night. If anyone knows Menard they would know he would of never hurt anyone this is a horrible accindent. Drinking and driving and how unsafe it is well known it is not a once in a blue moon thing.Everyone took the chance of something going wrong .They all choose to get in that car.

what is it that drives people to act so irresponsibly? honestly, if they want to play russian roulette in a motor vehicle, and risk their own lives... that's okay with me... BUT, they endanger innocent drivers and their passengers, which is NOT acceptable... if the operator is impaired, there should be exorbitant fines and permanent revocation of licensure... the more and harsh the penalty(ies) are, the more deterrent to those bone headed dolts...........
