State Police Look for Witnesses in Serious Crash on Route 44 West in Carver

Today, February 5, 2010 at approximately 6:21 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Norwell responded to a report of a hit and run pedestrian crash on Route 44 West, just east of Route 58 in Carver.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Emad Zakhany suggests that 52-year-old Richard Madden of Brockton was operating a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado when he pulled over into the breakdown lane and exited his vehicle for an unknown reason. As Madden was outside of his vehicle he was struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene. Madden suffered serious injuries and was transported to Boston Medical Center in Boston via a medical helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police. The Carver Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene. Members of the Carver and Middleboro Police Departments assisted in the search of the area for the vehicle that fled the scene.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call the State Police Norwell Barracks at 781-659-7911.
