     Teen superstar Miley Cyrus, better known as Hannah Montana, is apologizing to her fans after Vanity Fair magazine published provocative pictures of her.
     She says the photo shoot was supposed to be artistic, but says after seeing the photographs and reading the story, she feels embarrassed.
     One picture shows the 15-year-old topless, but clutching a sheet to her chest.
     Her bare back is exposed and she is looking toward the camera over one shoulder.
     Cyrus stars in the Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana," which the channel says is the top-rated cable television show for children aged six to 14.
     A Disney Channel spokesperson says the photos were meant to sell magazines.
     Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz took the photos and the following statement: "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted.
     Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it.
     The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful."

I think this is absolutely horrible. She is a 15 year old girl that was time and time again complemented for being a good role model for young girls. This does not follow suit. Total disgrace and shame that they are portraying this child in this way. I have lost my respect for her/her parents who only last month were interviewed for how they have 'helped' Miley 'cope' with her sudden rise to stardom. It appears that their guidance here was truly lacking. Bad choice Miley.

As a parent of a 15 year old girl, I personally find the picture inappropriate. I don't understand the point of portraying a MINOR naked in bed with only a bedsheet covering her. However, I do like "Hannah Montana" and I don't blame Miley, I question her parents and/or management. Apparently the "mighty dollar" was more important then protecting their daughter's dignity.

It's a very artistic, very beautiful photo. In the context of the subject being a 15-year-old girl, it's a little... questionable. But I could swear I've seen the pose, composition, etc. as a painting before -- it may well have been inspired by a painting from more innocent days gone by. It's definitely art, not kiddie porn, which is particularly evident if you see the "behind-the-scenes" shots. She's not nude, she's got pants on, people!

My daughters have really enjoyed Miley and I have carefully watched her rise to fame, hoping and even stating to my girls that I hoped she would continue to make good choices and age with dignity and grace.
