UPDATE: Barrington Teen Will Be Released from Prison; Confined to Home for Now

John Eagan

The Barrington teen accused of killing his friend in a drunken boating accident on the Barrington River will be released from the ACI as early as Saturday.

Friday in Providence Superior Court, Judge Joseph Keough ordered 18-year old Ryan Greenberg to home confinement after his parents post a $10,000 cash bail.  He is to be monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet and he is only allowed out of the house on medical, religious, or legal business.

Greenberg will be randomly screened for alcohol and drugs.

He had been free on $100,000 personal recognizance while awaiting trial on a 2nd degree murder charges in connection with last years boating death of friend, Patrick Murphy.

Officers believe alcohol was involved in that accident.

As terms of his bail, Greenberg had been ordered to refrain from alcohol and drugs.  But on April 19th, police found him drinking in the woods with a bunch of friends.

Ryan Greenberg's next court date is scheduled for July 18th.

It shows the old behavior has not gone away. He killed his friend & that still is not enough to stop him from drinking This is clearly a sign that the damage he has caused has not entered his mind at all. Since he has been caught in the woods drinking, he will do it again. He should spend some years in jail for the life he has taken Not Home confinement. It is appalling the judicial system has taken light action involving a death. Others are doing time for lesser crimes.

Do You Think the Rhode Island General Assembly Will Fix the Budget Deficit?

  • HA! No, they're going to chase their tails and point fingers and get nothing done. Business as usual.
  • I think some progress can be made. It's going to take some painful cuts and creativity, but we can do this.
