Seven Years Later: Share Your September 11th Memories

John Eagan

It has been 7 years, but it seems like just yesterday when the entire nation was given an unwanted dose of reality.  The reality was that terrorists had seized U.S. airplanes and plowed them into our financial and military headquarters, killing thousands of civilians, rescue workers and military personnel.

For most of the older generation, it was a jarring reminder of events that have shaken our nation:  like the Kennedy and King Assassinations, the Pearl Harbor attack, and the Space Shuttle explosions.  For a younger generation, it was their first real experience with nationwide adversity.  But one thing is true, nobody has forgotten where they were that day.

ABC 6 would like to hear what you were doing, and how you and your family reacted to the horrifying events that took place on September 11th, 2001.  I was actually in Los Angeles at the time, away from my family, thinking we were next to be hit.  It was the scariest day of my life, to say the least.

Enter your recollections below so that we may share them with others on today's newscasts...

On 9/11/01 I was in the 8th grade, enlish class with Mrs. Trinque, I'll never forget the look of panic on her face when my principal regretfully informed us of the bad news. We all watched the tv's in the cafe. I've never seen more tears, fears, and heartache ever before that day. September 11th was a day that will never be forgotten...since that day i've visited the memorial site numerous times and everytime leave there with tears. My thoughts & prayers go out to all. After driven cross country, we arrived in Vegas on 9/10. Still being on EST, I turned the TV only to witness the first plane crashing into the Trade Center. At first I thought it was an accident, but when the 2nd hit I knew that something was terribly wrong. Like every other person I'm sure, we stayed posted to the TV. Being so far away from home was the scariest thing we had to face, knowing that we had to make the long drive home. We did make it to L.A. for one day then headed back to RI

I was 11 years old and in my 5th grade class. We had broken up into groups & over the intercom my best friend was called for dismisal. After school my dad picks me up & asked me if I had heard about the Twin Towers & I hadn't. He explained to me what had happened, but I was still very confused. We went home & watched the new for the rest of the night.

I will never forget September 11, 2001. I was sitting in my Chemistry class of my freshmen year at Montclair Kimberley Academy in New Jersey. Our Dean of Students rushed in to whisper something in my teachers ear and she looked shocked when she heard the news. She quickly dismissed us to the autitorium. We all met and were told about the tragic events going on. I could see the buildings smoking from my shcool since we over looked the city, a view that has forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, I was at work at Retina Consultants in Providence and I had just walked in the door and everybody was watching the TV after the first plane hit and then we all watched the second plane hit and I just broke down. I do not know anybody in New York, Pennsylvania or at the Pentagon but when the planes hit but I feel for the survivors of the people who have died or of the heroes who has given their lives to help others. They are all in my prayers as they have been since 2001.

I am 13 years old. I was in my second grade class when a teacher walked in saying the twin towers were hit and we actually turned on the news. It was scary no one knew what was going on.

Do You Think the Rhode Island General Assembly Will Fix the Budget Deficit?

  • HA! No, they're going to chase their tails and point fingers and get nothing done. Business as usual.
  • I think some progress can be made. It's going to take some painful cuts and creativity, but we can do this.
