Lynch Joining Fight to Prevent Electricity Rate Hikes

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick
Lynch is stepping in to fight Narragansett Electric's request to
raise electricity distribution rates by nearly 30 percent.

Lynch said Thursday that given the economy and the associated
strains on the state's residents, he feels it's appropriate the
examine the necessity of the proposed rate hike, which he called "drastic."

He says Narragansett Electric, owned by National Grid, remains
profitable.

Lynch said if approved by the state's Public Utilities Commission, the rate hike would result in a standard customer
paying nearly $9 more per month.

If NG wants to raise the rates, lets see the numbers.Jusify it.And the rest of you with the green jobs BS, can it. When the rest of the world deciedes to join in and SAVE the planet, then we might think about it, but so long as India, and China want to continue to spew polutants in the air, green is a joke. We get to bear the expense and they get a free ride.

It's about time for someone to step in and address the madness that national grid proposes. Seriously, how can they even consider an increase when families are struggling as it is to pay their bills. I man there are no jobs here in RI, yet national grid feels a need to increase there rates. This is wrong in all aspects obviously whoever owns national grid only cares about getting richer they obviously dont care about the struggles residents of RI are currently facing due to the economy being low

They already raised the rates 20% when gas was high. That price never came down. That increased my bill by $20 a month. On top of that they charge me a fee that has something to do with them recouping profits that they are losing because people are conserving energy. We conserve energy so that we can afford to pay our bill. Charging us an additional fee defeats that purpose. Another rate hike is absurd and will bankrupt those of us who barely get by as it is.

Obama said he would bring a new grid to the existing grid. Like many other contradictory promises, the new grid is in grid lock. The State has to mandate what is best for Rhode Island by giving incentives and money to build Green energy and Green energy jobs. Forget about national unemployment rate. It is way much higher in RI. It is high time that Governor digress from feds priorities and create jobs in Rhode Island. Health care could wait as people cannot live by eating medicines.
