To honor the passing of the soldiers killed in the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas on Thursday, November 5, Governor Donald L. Carcieri has ordered the United States and Rhode Island State flags lowered to half-staff. Flags are to remain at half-staff until sundown on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11.

Finally, something the Governor and I agree with. The only problem is he does not have authority to order the United States flag to be flown at half-staff. Only the President of the United States has that authority. I hope the Commander in Chief uses that authority for the entire country.
