WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Two-time Oscar-nominated actor James Woods has sued a Rhode Island hospital over the 2006 death of his younger brother.
Woods on Friday declined to discuss the lawsuit in detail, but
told The Associated Press he wants "justice" for his brother,
Michael, who was 49 when he died at Kent Hospital in Warwick of an apparent heart attack.
Woods claims his brother received negligent medical care.
A jury was selected Friday, and opening statements are scheduled for Monday in Kent County Superior Court.
Woods, who grew up in Warwick, received Oscar nominations for
his performances in "Ghosts of Mississippi" and "Salvador."
Other credits include "Nixon," "Casino" and the CBS legal drama "Shark."
Lawyers for both sides say they won't discuss the case while it's pending.

Also Kent Hospital almost killed my mom when i was nine because of an over four hour er wait while her appendix burst inside of her. The only reason she was saved was because our PCP came to the hospital and forced them to take care of her.

James Woods isn't a jerk. He came into my friend's work (domino's) a couple months ago and never said who he was. My friend asked if he was James Woods and he said yes then autographed a pizza box for my her(for my mom, who frickin loves him). Then they gave him the wrong pizza but he never complained or even called back about it.

I have had nothing but positive experiences at Kent Hospital. I've had 4 outpatient procedures there and even gave birth to my daughter there. The care that I received was phenominal and the nurses are all wonderful! I will deliver my second child there as well. All hospitals have both good and bad things that happen.

I am saddened to hear of the bad experiences, there are always horror stories from every institution. It is my understanding that Mr Wood's brother didn't present with typical MI symptoms. My father passed away many years ago after presenting with jaw pain. This was in the years before jaw pain was a recognized symptom. As for the providers that are using this forum as your venting board, you should be ashamed. If you work at a HCF, be proud to be, if not you should look elsewhere.

We all hear the bad thing about Kent. My personal experience is that they saved my life from an accidental drug overdose which caused kidney failure, heart attacks, and numerous other important failures. If not for the fast-acting ER doctors, I would not be alive today and for that I am most thankful!

Anyone whose ever had the misfortune of meeting James Woods knows that he's a jerk & throws around his quasi-celebrityism to get his way.He belittles people from car rental agencies, restaurants all the way to Best Buy installers telling him he has to pay for a special wire. He's probably upset that they didn't give him free treatment for something when he did his usual "Do you know who I am?" or "you are doing this because I am famous and you want more money out of me" routine. I live in Warwick. My father (in his 80's, since deceased) was taken into the Kent emergency room for for back pain, and given an overdose of Dilaudid. He should have been released the same day, but because of the overdose he was in for a week. I refused to pay the insurance copay. I told them why, and they apparently agreed with me as I never received another bill or notice. The side effects of the overdose include seeing "things" crawl up the wall. Miriam was his favorite hospital...

We delivered 4 healthy children at S County, had our 18 month old hospitalized in Hasbro for 5 weeks (life saving care) which was correctly diagnosed at S County Hospital. The doctors were professional /caring for our family. While everyone has different experiences, we don't have all the facts nor the underlying medical conditions that these others had. The doctors are human too! We can’t blame them for everything.

It is our responsibility to seek preventative care and the only people who do are generally the insured. The uninsured tend to wait til the damage is already done. We need to all have insurance, share the risk, and the premiums will go down. We live in the fantasy world where "we just take a pill" instead of eating right and exercising and then blame the doctors for our health. Wake up!! They are human too and cannot fix and/or cure everything. We don't have all the facts!

As long as health care is a for profit enterprise, health care will be a sham and national disgrace in this country. The objective is profit.. not health. There is so much wrong with this, which the rest of the world seems to realize. Only thing as sick as our national health care.. is our corrupt politicians that cause and tolerate this. The goal here should be health not profit.

So sad that so many of us have had bad experiences at Kent Hospital. Brought my husband in a few years ago with possible Meningitis. Had seen primary Dr. earlier in the day, waiting for results of lab work. Dr. at Kent refused to test for Meningits for 7 hours. Had it been bacterial, he could have died. Eventually agreed to do Spinal and he did indeed have Viral Meningitis. He REFUSED to listen to us as patients. Who would go into an ER and request a spinal tap unless they were very ill?

Each and every hospital has it's good and bad and we don't know the details for each of these cases. Boston General, UCLA, etc. has had many of the same. Be a vigilant patient, we are lucky to have very good health care in this country. You want better health care? Get people off their butts and buy health insurance, pay for their care and then the overworked physicians and staff will get normal work shifts and get paid to treat people.

Both those hospitals are great for cuts and scraps, or possibly a broken bone, but not a heart condition.....don't even give birth there, cause if there are any complications with your pregnancy, they are just gonna send to directly to Women and Infants anyway, so you may as well go to the right hospital in the first place.....
