Central Falls Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect Hiding in Closet

On 11/15/09 at approximately12:55pm, officers from the Central Falls Police Department responded to the La Esperanza Market, located at 1234 Broad Street, for a report of an armed robbery.
Due to their quick response, a detailed description was ascertained; whereby, the potential whereabouts of the suspect was determined. It was learned by officers that the suspect fled into a dwelling on Division Street in Central Falls, which is in close proximity to the crime; whereas, they came in contact with relatives of the assailant.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the suspect, later identified as Rebecca Zab DOB: 06/11/81, was driven by one of her relatives to her first floor apartment, located at 80 Hedley Avenue, just prior to the arrival of police. Officers then responded to that location to find Ms. Zab hiding in a closet in possession of a knife.
She was subsequently placed into custody, advised of her Miranda Rights and interviewed by Detectives. Ms. Zab admitted to robbing La Esperanza Market and also implicated her boyfriend, George Benson DOB: 01/30/58, in two separate robberies in Central Falls.
Mr. Benson was brought in for questioning and after being "Mirandized" admitted to robbing both Las Antillas Market on Illinois Street and Columbia Market on Washington Street. Both suspects are being arraigned in 6th District Court in Providence. Ms. Zab is being charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Conspiracy, and Mr. Benson is being charged with two counts of 1st Degree Robbery, 2nd Degree and Conspiracy.
