DARTMOUTH, Mass.(AP) - The Bristol District Attorney's Office is
investigating the death of an inmate who died after collapsing at the county jail.
DA's office spokesman Gregg Miliote tells The Herald News of
Fall River that 30-year-old Elvis Santos died last Wednesday at the hospital after collapsing in the exercise yard at the house of
correction in Dartmouth.
He says an initial investigation found there was no foul play
involved but the incident remains under review. He says results of an autopsy and toxicology tests are pending.
Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says the inmate complained of not feeling well before collapsing, and proper medical protocol was followed. He says he died on an aneurysm. Hodgson says Santos was serving a one-year sentence on a larceny conviction.
